Anthony Nolan: Thank You Stranger

Back in July I was asked to participate in Anthony Nolan’s National Transplant Week campaign which was focused around raising awareness of giving blood, platelets, and signing up to the donor register. As somebody who has heavily benefitted from the generosity of people doing exactly those things, I was delighted to be involved and, when they asked if I’d care to spread the message about their latest campaign, I had no hesitation at all.

Their campaign, Thank You Stranger, is all about remembering the kind things strangers do for us everyday like helping us with our bags, holding a door open, or even something remarkable like saving our lives. These small acts of generosity can be the difference between somebody having a good or bad day, and sometimes they can be the difference between life and death. So, Anthony Nolan want to know what kind things strangers have ever done for you? Here’s what the public said:

As a cancer survivor, I have a quite a lot of strangers to thank! So here goes; Thank You Stranger for…

starting a charity that sends sick children on wonderful holidays
making baseball caps part of my school uniform so that my baldness wouldn’t stand out!
supporting my parents through the cancer journey
running in races or doing silly things to raise money for cancer research
| donating blood and platelets | donating bone marrow to so many of my friends with cancer |

There are so many more strangers I could thank, but these are just a few examples to show how easy it is to make a massive difference to somebody’s life. I always think it’s nice to be thankful at Christmas time and to reflect on the kindness you’ve given and received, so why not join in with Anthony Nolan’s Thank You Stranger Campaign yourself? You can tweet using the hashtag #ThankYouStranger, post on your blog, do a video, or whatever you fancy (see more info here). Make sure you tag me or link me to your post so I can see! Let’s carry on this little train of thankfulness and help to spread the word about the fantastic work the Anthony Nolan charity does.

You can find more information about Anthony Nolan HERE and you can sign up to their donation register HERE. I wouldn’t be here without the generous people who did sign up and donate, so I’m living proof that it’s worthwhile!
